Women-Owned Businesses Growing
Atlanta’s women‑owned business community continues to be one of the strongest and most distinctive in the country.
Women own roughly one‑quarter of employer businesses in the Atlanta region, which is slightly above the national average, according to Census and Georgia economic development data.
In Atlanta, women-owned businesses account for nearly 40% of all Black‑owned businesses and have seen steady increases. The year‑over‑year growth in new openings highlights the intersection of racial and gender diversity within Atlanta’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Metro Atlanta stands out nationally as a hub for diverse entrepreneurs accounting for more than 13,000 Black‑owned employer businesses across the region that employ over 60,000 workers and generate ~$6–7 billion in annual revenue.
While access to financing remains a challenge, Atlanta’s dense concentration of corporate headquarters, supplier‑diversity programs, and public‑private initiatives continues to create pathways for women‑owned firms to scale.
BOTTOM LINE: Atlanta’s women‑owned business landscape is not emerging. It is established, economically significant, and still growing.
